Obituary of Alvin Wesley DEINES

December 24, 1924 – September 7, 2020

Alvin Deines of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the age of 95 years.

Alvin was born in Majorville, AB, to Jacob and Rena Deines, one of eleven children. In his early years the family moved to Calgary where he grew up and lived the rest of his years in various locations. He was married to Margaret, the love of his life, for sixty-five years, who predeceased him in 2008. He apprenticed in the sheet metal industry and later became a partner in Reggin Industries Limited, retiring in 1984. He loved the outdoors - camping, hiking, fishing and game bird hunting. In 1975 the “Ranch” was purchased and a whole new era began. The cabin was built and going forward there were many, many years of weekends spent with family and friends. He also loved the yearly winter trips to Maui where he and Mom enjoyed the beach, sun, friends and Dad got into golf.  He actually got a hole in one in Maui in 2001. In later years he enjoyed his summer golf right up to 2019 – with his sisters and friend Joe - winter holidays with family in Mexico and Scottsdale, playing Bridge and Wizard weekly with his friends at his Condo.

He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Carolyn Fitzsimmons of Calgary, and Gwen Fargey of Edmonton and lovingly remembered as “Gramps” by his grandchildren, Rob (Lisa) Bannerman, Robert Fitzsimmons, Kevin (Lisa) Fitzsimmons, Carie (Phil) Scott, and Jodi (Jim) Whitehead; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Bradley and Jordan Bannerman, Grace and Olivia Fitzsimmons, Quintin and Elias Fitzsimmons, Cally and Brady Whitehead and Abigail Scott. He is also survived by his sisters, Eleanor, Norma, Lois and Verna. He was predeceased by sons-in-law Peter Fargey and Del Fitzsimmons.
