Obituary of Lanny Theodore ZAREMBA

Lanny Zaremba, beloved husband and father, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at the age of 73 years.

Lanny was born to Theodore (Ted) and Dorothy (Dot) Zaremba of Regina, SK. He grew up surrounded by family and friends, graduating from Martin High School in 1965. After time spent working on a survey crew Lanny decided to head west to Calgary in 1967. It wasn't long after that he met the woman who would change his life. Lanny met Helen while they were both working at the Airliner Inn and immediately decided she was the one for him. Helen, widowed with a young son, was not so sure that Lanny was right for her, but he soon won her over with his humour and his ability to make her laugh. They were married on 3 January1970. Just over a year later, they welcomed the first of their two daughters, Selena. Tara followed in May 1974.

Lanny spent the 70s working in finance and real estate. In 1979, he finally found, as he liked to say, "His niche in grease," opening the first restaurant services businesses in Calgary. Lanny built up and ran several successful businesses in the same field throughout the 80s and 90s. During this period, there wasn't much time for long-distance vacations. However, after reluctantly agreeing to go on vacation to Hawaii to celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, Lanny was bitten by the travel bug. Together, over the next twenty-five years, Lanny and Helen travelled to six different continents. Of all the places they visited, the vacations that stood out the most for Lanny were their trips to South Africa and to Namibia. He went there to see the lions but fell in love with the giraffes.

Lanny is survived by his wife Helen, his son Shawn (Nicky), and daughters, Selena (Troy), and Tara (Jaime). He will be lovingly remembered by family and friends far and wide.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Due to Covid-19 the family respectfully requests that children are kept at home for the event.
