Obituary of Nora Mary BRAKUS

May 22, 1933 –Birmingham, England February 8, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Nora Brakus (nee Boyes) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Nora was an avid gardener who loved all animals and nature. She worked hard, but always had time for a laugh or to share a story with her working pals. She was always there for her children and brought her love of music to them both. Nora began her singing career at age fourteen under the tutelage of Mavis Bennett, and sang in many musicals as well as on the BBC. She fondly remembered the times her dad would play the piano while she sang. At the age of twenty-one she came to Canada with her husband and made Edmonton her new home, until moving to Calgary in 2013 to share more time with her daughter and young granddaughter. Nora is survived by her son Rod (Catherine) Brakus, daughter Susan Brakus, granddaughter Ciana Brakus-Kearse, brother Brian (Betty) Boyes, nephew Gavin (Sharon) Boyes, second nephew Michael (Alice) Boyes and their son Arthur, second nephew Shaun Boyes, niece Linda (Stewart) Hodges, second niece Maddison Adams and two cousins, Sheila Townsend and Betty Reynolds. Nora was predeceased by her loving husband Steve Brakus, father James Boyes and mother Mary Boyes (nee Wincote). A private gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Nora’s life. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to your favourite nature or animal non-profit charity to honour Nora. Nora touched many people she met with her kind and loving spirit and open mind. She will sadly be missed and fondly remembered. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
