Obituary of James (Jim) Hall DEAN

September 15, 1939 – Pleasant Valley, Nova Scotia
September 12, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

James (Uncle Jim) Hall Dean of Cochrane, AB, formerly of Halifax, NS, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the age of 80 years.

Born in Pleasant Valley close to Upper Musquodoboit, he was educated in a one room school house. He attended junior high at Middle Musquodoboit Rural High School. He worked at menial jobs around the area and also at Art Wooden’s Lumber Mill. In the late 60s he moved to Halifax. He worked a short time with his brother at a lumber yard, and then moved to janitorial work. He was also a clerk at a drug store and a desk clerk at a hotel. He then found his dream job at Sam the Record Man as a sales associate and then assistant manager. On September 2, 1972, Jim married his loving wife Joyce (nee Meisner). He worked at Sam’s until his retirement. 

Jim was known for his knowledge and interest in the history of country music, which lead him to be a member of the Hank Snow Society. He was a human computer when it came to music: People from all over the world for info on the history of old country songs. 

In August 2015, Jim moved west to Cochrane, AB. There he lived with his nephew and his wife, Garfield and Beth Dean. He loved the mountains. Every day his would sit and look out the window at the Rockies. Garfield and Jim would go for drives in the “VIP van” (as Jim called it) through the foothills, looking for wildlife, which he enjoyed. Jim had respect for God and His work on this earth. 

Jim leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends in the music world. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce and all of his siblings.
