Obituary of Kathleen Margaret HUNTER

Kathleen, beloved wife of Gordon Henry Hunter, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Kathleen was born on April 5, 1932, in Edmonton, AB to parents Marion Reid (nee Stuart) and Rt. Hon. Richard Gavin Reid, Premier of Alberta (1934-1935).

Although Kathleen was born in Edmonton, she considered herself a true Calgarian and proved this in her unwavering support of “her hockey team,” The Calgary Flames. One of her fondest memories was of the Calgary Flames taking the 1989 Stanley Cup.  

Kathleen took great pride in her volunteer and work life.  For close to a decade, Kathleen volunteered with The Girl Guides of Canada working her way through the ranks beginning as a Tawny Owl to become a Brown Owl, and finally a Commissioner. 

When she returned to work after raising her children, Kathleen shared her motherly love with the staff and students of Cedarbrae, Louis Riel and Ethel M. Johnson Schools.  She was as fond of the people she worked with as they were of her and she made it her mission to support those around her in whatever way possible; often with a dose of humour thrown in for good measure. 

In retirement, Kathleen was happiest when she was visiting her family, solving a crossword puzzle, or sipping a Rum and Coke on the deck.  Her best times were when she could do all of these at once. 

Besides her loving husband, Kathleen is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Bianchini and Allan Bianchini; and her two sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart Hunter and Mary Brennan Hunter and Murray Hunter and Colinda Hunter.  She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Cameron Hunter, Lindsay Hunter, Ryan Bianchini and Nathan Bianchini.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Stuart Reid, James Reid and Richard Reid; her sister Flora Maher and her grandchild Ethan Bianchini.
