Obituary of Dale Owen BAIRSTOW

Dale Bairstow, of Calgary, AB, passed away in his home from heart failure on October 1, 2020 at the age of 73. He had been battling multiple cancers and cardiac issues for some time. 

Dale was born in Louisville, Kentucky, USA on May 15, 1947. He lived in numerous locations throughout his life including: Montreal, Ottawa-Gatineau, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Massachusetts, Florida and Calgary. 

In 1964, he graduated from Beaconsfield High School in Montreal followed by him subsequently graduating from Lindsay Place High School in 1965.   Dale obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Mcgill University in 1970 and then earned his Masters of Science in Geography from Rutgers University in 1973.  

Dale’s career spanned fifty years and initially focussed on housing and municipal affairs where he worked for various levels of government and on a consultancy basis. He published numerous reports on these issues which are still in circulation at various Canadian university libraries. He later progressed to become a successful realtor and mortgage broker.  Finally, at the end of his career he decided to help the community by driving buses to transport special needs children and homeless individuals.  

His interests were wide ranging with his primary passion being swimming and kayaking. He was very musically talented and capable of playing the clarinet, 6/12 string guitar and the banjo. He especially loved Bluegrass and Folk music.

Dale is survived by: his ex-wife Christine Boldt of Ontario, his sons Nick Boldt (Shazia) of Nova Scotia and Ontario, Robert Boldt (Julianna) of Ontario, granddaughter Zoey and his brother Tony Bairstow (Nina) of Calgary. He will be fondly remembered for many wonderful years together by Marcia Greenbaum of Essex, Massachusetts, and Sheila Crush of Calgary. Dale was predeceased by his father David Bairstow d. 1985 and Mother Frances Bairstow d. 2013.
