Obituary of Malcolm Bartley MUNROE

May 19, 1934 – Wadena, Saskatchewan

October 12, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Malcolm Munroe, beloved husband of Joy Munroe (nee Ruud), of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020, at the age of 86 years.

Malcolm was born in Wadena, SK on May 19, 1934. He later moved and grew up in Winnipeg, MB, a place that always carried a special place in his heart. Malcolm graduated from the Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute in Winnipeg in 1952.

As a teenager, Malcolm was active in the Air Cadets, which is where his love of flying began. He would later go on to obtain his private pilot’s license. He spent much time as a young adult at West Hawk Lake, MB, with his “buddies” Herbie, George, Ernie, Stan, and Noel.

Malcolm would go on to meet Joy in Winnipeg, they married in 1963, and then moved to Montreal, QC. His aviation passion lead him to a successful career with Air Canada for twenty-five years. In 1978, Malcolm moved his family out west to settle in St. Albert, AB.

Malcolm enjoyed flying, traveling, watersports, fishing, and watching his grandkids grow up and play hockey. He had a passion for airplanes and the airline industry. He loved dinner parties with family and friends over the years. Malcolm was an active volunteer with the United Church of Canada for most of his life. Malcolm’s most memorable travels included several trips to Europe (including Norway and Scotland), the Caribbean, South America, and cruising the Mediterranean and Alaska.

Malcolm will be remembered fondly for his stories, sense of humour, and his love of a good martini.

Besides his loving wife of fifty-seven years Joy, Malcolm is survived by his two daughters, Michelle Jane of Sherwood Park, AB, and Lisa Joy (Cameron Davis) of Airdrie, AB; and two grandchildren, Brodie Campbell Munroe Davis, and Ty James Davis. Malcolm was predeceased by his mother and father, Margaret Elise Munroe (nee Bartley) and Archie Phillip Munroe; and his beloved dog, Boodle.

A small Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Malcolm’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.  If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.
