Peter KROEGER

Obituary of Peter Gerhard KROEGER

December 10, 1943 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
October 20, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts we share that Peter Gerhard Kroeger, a loving partner, father, brother and friend left us on the afternoon of October 20, 2020 with family at his side.

Despite Peter having enormous emotional and physical strength, he couldn’t overcome the ravages of cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

Peter was born in Dundurn, SK. on December 10, 1943 to Peter and Louise Kroeger and spent his early years on the family farm. He attended school in Dundurn and graduated high school from Rosthern Junior College. He completed the Renewable Resources Technology program at SIAST and later, through a lot of perseverance, received B.Sc. and B.Comm. Degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta .

His work career spanned many years with the Federal Government in various departments: Agriculture Canada, Environment Canada and finally as a financial officer with Parks Canada. He is still closely associated and respected by work colleagues and friends.

Peter had many, many interests and hobbies. He loved sports; playing hockey, football, curling, golf and was an excellent windmill fastball pitcher. He collected everything, we often said, ‘two of almost the same thing were the start of a collection for Peter’. He was an avid bridge player having earned the ranks of a silver life master.

Peter loved animals, including a pet hawk is his early years, numerous dogs, horses and a herd of cattle. This lead to his interest in farming with farm land in Hesketh and Delia, AB and Dundurn, SK.

He was a photographer and a traveler, making many trips across Canada, the US, Europe and Asia. His photography collection included pictures of almost all remaining grain elevators in SK. He was a very skilled craftsman, having built numerous homes and having endless building projects to be completed.

Peter loved the outdoors: fishing, camping, hiking, enjoying nature and special enthusiasm for annual hunting seasons.

He was also not a stranger to heartbreak. His wife Margaret (Hiebert) died in 2003 and a set of twins, Jacqueline and Rosanne, died in 1975

Peter is survived by his children, Ryan (Karen) Kroeger and Andrew Kroeger; his brother Harold Kroeger, his sister Margrete (Terry) Lambden, his partner Donna Johnson and her children, Pamela (Nader) Janzen-Ishaq and Brad (Colleen) Janzen, and grandson Colby; his former wife Irene and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Peter, we will miss the family gatherings, the camaraderie, the bridge games, all the memories you created and shared. You portrayed yourself as somewhat of a "mountain man", that is how we will remember you: strong, skilled, capable, undertaking, quiet, somewhat secretive, but having a heart of gold. Good bye our friend.

A Celebration of Peter’s Life will be announced at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Peter’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
