Obituary of Jannie BANKS

January 20, 1953 – Leiden, Netherlands
October 22, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Jannie Banks, beloved mother of Marian Banks and Crystal Genest, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age of 67 years.

Jannie was born in Leiden, Netherlands on January 20, 1953.
The family immigrated to Calgary, AB shortly thereafter. She moved to the United States in the year 2000 and came back to Calgary in 2010.

Jannie graduated from the DeVry University with a degree in Computer Sciences.  She then obtained her Master’s Degree at the University of Phoenix. 

She worked as the Senior Software Engineer at Cincinnati Bell until finally coming back to Calgary where worked as The Senior Software Engineer at Shaw. 

Jannie was an avid reader and loved to do many crafts.  She wished she could travel more but her illness did not allow this but she was able to take three of her grandchildren to Walt Disney World. She strived to take her remaining two but life had other plans for her. Walt Disney World was one of her favorite places on Earth. 
Besides her loving daughters, Jannie is survived by her grandchildren, Randy Kowalchuk, Adrionna Kowalchuk, Gabriel Genest, Samantha Bunz and Jayden Bunz all of Calgary.

She was also survived by her siblings, Judy Alcock of Powell River, BC, Anna Salerno of Powell River, BC, Liz Knudtson of Edmonton, AB, Ben Turk of Toronto, ON and Rose Mudge of Calgary, AB.

Jannie was predeceased by her father Engelbertus Turk, her mother Elizabeth Turk, sister Leona Griffith and her brother Larry Turk.
