Obituary of Florence Ruth THORNTON

October 26, 1924 – Weston, Ontario

October 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Florence Thornton of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the age of 95 years. 

Flo is survived by her sons, Larry (Phyllis) and Stephen (Marianne); grandchildren, Shari (Robert) and Adrian (Ailish); and great-grandchildren, Alex, Brienna and Eva. She is also survived by her brother Warren and sister-in-law Joyce. 

Flo was predeceased by her husband Clarence (Butch), son Mitch; and siblings, Myrtle, Mervin, Howard, Jean, Barb and Don. 

Flo travelled many places, including England, Barbados, a cruise through the Panama Canal, a wine tour through the Napa Valley, and her recurring favourite – Hawaii. She loved to cook and a meal at her home was a special affair.  In her spare time she could be found growing flowers, reading or knitting – all to the accompaniment of classical music.   For several years she golfed, particularly when she stayed in her trailer at Tall Timbers for the summer. A trip to the ballet was a special treat.  Over the years she enjoyed the companionship of both cats and dogs, even showing her dogs occasionally.
