Obituary of Mae Iris BARCLAY (nee Clark)

March 22, 1934 – Bangor, Saskatchewan
October 26, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Mae Barclay of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with Parkinson’s disease on Monday, October 26, 2020 at the age of 86 years at the South Health Campus.

Mae was born March 22, 1934 in Bangor, SK to Claudia and Kenneth Clark. She met and married Bob in Saskatoon, lived a short time in Edmonton, then, in 1960 settled in Calgary where she remained for the rest of her life. Mae was an employee of Sears Chinook in Calgary for twenty-six years in Ladies Sportswear, and there she formed many lasting friendships. The Barclay’s ran the Baha Tina Ranch south of Calgary for ten years to lead them into retirement. Mae enjoyed her time working with the horses and other animals.

Mae loved going to the theatre both with and to watch her granddaughter and was a devoted fan attending all of her grandson’s sport events. She enjoyed travel, shopping, entertaining, the Calgary Flames and Stampeders. She was proud of her garden and always had baking to share. Mae was an excellent cook. She was an active member in the Cedarbrae Community Coffee group, which was always an important part of her week. She was dedicated to her family and a friend to many. She will be remembered for her adventurous attitude and good sense of humor and style.

Mae is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of sixty-eight years, Bob Barclay, daughter Brenda (Peter) Minerson of Calgary, son Bob (Jill) Barclay of Hervey Bay, Australia, grandchildren, Mallory Minerson of Fort Smith, NWT and Owen (Jaime Laird) Minerson of Calgary. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Clark of Vancouver, BC, Joyce Carrick of Winnipeg, MB, and Marilyn Dale of Saskatoon, SK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Byers, Ivol Morley, Bernice Sketcher, Evelyn Sokoloski, Diane Shatz, and Ken Clark.
