Thank you to mom's circle of friends that were always just a phone call away. Anytime she wanted to go play bingo or gamble at the casinos, or if she needed a ride to an appointment, Gwen, Marianne, or Caraleen were always ready to go and, sometimes just a friend to talk to. Thank you to the Red Hat Ladies that got her back out into the world after John, her husband, passed away. It was a very hard adjustment as he took care of everything and protected her from the world. Thank you to Marianne, Caraleen, Jackie, Stella, Margaret, and Betty who started playing cards with her. First at St. Cecilia’s Church and then later at moms home. Thank you to Susan. After my mom was released from one of her extended stays in the hospital, she was afraid of being home alone at night. My dearest friend offered to stay with her during the night and help with anything she needed. You may not know this, but Marina could be stubborn sometimes and needed a wee push to test her blood sugars or have a proper dinner. Her special relationship with Susan meant she could usually get her to do things without much difficulty. Thank you to Janet & Dudley, & Lindsay who were mom's friends for over 45 years and never missed an opportunity to be there for her, always. Thank you to Gwen who has been mom’s partner in crime and trusted friend for over 43 years. Gwen has never failed to match Marina’s sense of adventure for what ever they had planned. Whether taking road trips, going to every bingo hall in the city, or taking their chances at the casino’s. Gwen and her family have always opened their home and hearts to make Marina part of their family.  Thank you to Sandi. even though she lives in Las Vegas, Sandi always kept in touch and always insisted mom went to visit her in Vegas as often as possible. Sandi was very close to Marina and they shared many, many trips together checking out casinos, shopping, and traveling around Nevada. Sandi never missed a chance to visit mom when she came to Canada to visit her own parents, and just keeping mom close as family does. Thank you to Marina Thompson. She has been friends with mom for 50+ years and even though she moved away several years ago, her regular Thursday night phone calls kept them both in touch and provided a friendship that has always been treasured.
