Obituary of Allan David REID

October 17, 1950 – Bentley, Alberta
December 10, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Allan Reid announce his passing on Thursday, December 10, 2020 in Calgary, AB only one month after being diagnosed with Cancer at the age of 70 years.

Allan was born to Alex and Vera Reid in Bentley, AB on October 17, 1950. He grew up with nine siblings in Sylvan Lake and later moved to Calgary.

Always wanting to be surrounded by people, Allan spent his last day at the Rosedale Hospice where he was able to say goodbye to many of his loved ones.

Allan was the owner of Hydro Air Technical Services, a business he proudly built and operated for forty-four years. Even in his final days, he worked hard and was lucky to have his son, Cory working along side him.

Allan spent most his weekends and summers at his cabin at Sylvan Lake with his family and friends. Whether there, or at his garage in Calgary, there was always a beverage for anyone who stopped by at Beer o’Clock.

Described as a “Legend” by many who knew him, he will lovingly be remembered for his joyous spirit, overwhelming generosity, his love of anything John Deere, and the joy he had in his heart for his precious grandchildren.

Allan was an amazing father, businessman, grumpa and friend. He is survived by his partner, Sandy Deigner, daughter Shannon (Mike) Hilton, son Cory (Chelsey) Reid, his children’s mom Jean Reid, his grandchildren, Abby, Isabella, Charlie, Jax, Norah; brothers, Ron, George, and Larry; sisters, Laura, Barbara, Janine, and Carrie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Allan was predeceased by his sister Patsy in 1967, his niece Holly in 1989, and his big brother Wilf, in November of this year.

A Celebration of Allan’s Life will be planned at his place at Sylvan Lake in the summer of 2021. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Allan’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

His family would like to thank the medical team in unit seventy-three at the Rockyview General Hospital, and the kindness shown to us by the staff at the Rosedale Hospice.

In living memory of Allan Reid, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
