Obituary of Ernie Orest HAWRYLYSHEN

Ernie Hawrylyshen, beloved husband of Helen Hawrylyshen of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 86 years of age.

Ernie was born in Gilbert Plains, MB, on February 21, 1934, the sixth child to Micheal (Mikhail) and Anatasia Hawrylyshen (nee Marak). Ernie was raised on the family farm in Gilbert Plains, MB, prior to graduating as a Civil Engineer from the University of Manitoba in 1957. Thereafter, Ernie worked for the Ministry of Transport, building new airports across Canada until leaving public service in 1980. Since 1980, Ernie has been instrumental in large scale and unique construction efforts across many industries, including the Calgary Centre for Performing Arts and Edmonton's Winspear Centre.  Ernie was an avid curler as his fellow Rotarians will remember.

Besides his loving wife, Helen (nee Craig), Ernie is survived by his two sons, Alan (KC), and Peter; and grandchildren, Una, Eamonn and Maisie. He is also survived by his two sisters, Victoria Balyk and Shirley Chychowski.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Micheal and Anastasia Hawrylyshen; his brothers, Wasyl (Bill), Dmytro (Matt), Maurice and Alvin and sisters, Elsie Proskin and Anne Gashyna.
