Obituary of Ray Elmer WOOLSTON

October 22, 1923 – Rosevear, Alberta

December 15, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Ray Woolston, beloved husband of Joyce Woolston (nee Bennett) of Calgary, AB, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the age of 97 years. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

 

Ray was born in Rosevear, AB. 

 

Ray was a proud WWII RCAF Veteran, serving as a wireless operator from July 11, 1942, to October 24, 1945.

 

Ray settled in Drumheller where he worked in the grocery business. It was in Drumheller where he met Joyce. They married in Calgary in 1952 and went on to enjoy sixty-eight years of marriage.  They loved to travel to Las Vegas and Hawaii.

 

Ray was a member of the Kensington Legion and enjoyed playing in their cribbage tournaments. He accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of the work he did on the Woolston genealogy, and published a booklet on the history of the Woolston clan. Ray enjoyed fishing, lapidary, playing cards, and fixing things around the house. Ray worked in many different fields including Safeway manager and delivered pharmaceuticals before he retired at age 80.

 

 

Besides his loving wife, Joyce Woolston, Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Woolston and Wayne Dwyer; and his dear pet poodle Tali.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff at Colonel Belcher LTC (Churchill Unit) for taking such good care of Ray.
