Lucille ROGERS (nee Persich)

Obituary of Lucille Marie ROGERS (nee Persich)

June 11, 1926 – Bladworth, Saskatchewan
December 28, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to Lucille, mom, grandma, cousin and friend at 6:00 a.m.  on December 28, 2020.

Lucille was born on the Tomlenovich family farm near Bladworth, SK. She attended Nutana Collegiate, Saskatoon, SK, and went on to be the secretary to the Superintendent of CP Rail. In Saskatoon, she met and married the late John Rogers. They moved to John’s family farm at Plenty.

Her grandsons fondly remember helping grandma in her massive garden and getting paid to cut the grass. Those who remember Lucille would say she had a strong and vibrant personality and loved her family passionately.

Lucille was an avid armchair curler. She loved to read. She was always baking cookies, thus getting the name “Cookie Monster”. She travelled to many places, but her favourite was to travel in the motorhome with John. Prior to an accident, she would knit, crochet and do needle work. In later years she enjoyed doing puzzles and playing cards with a group of friends at Rocky Ridge Retirement Community. She was always on the bus when it left for the casino.

Lucille is survived by her son,  Rick Rogers (Joanna Meerman) of Nanaimo, BC; daughter Shelley Smith (partner Warren Rechenmacher) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Derek Rogers (Jennifer DeVries) of Calgary, AB, and Travis Rogers of Camrose, AB.

Lucille was predeceased by her loving husband John Rogers on April 16, 2018; two infant sons; her mother Catherine Tomlenovich; her father, Nickolas Persich; her brother Bernie Persick; her stepfather George Milne.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Rocky Ridge for their great care of Lucille. Special thanks to Mike at Angles for helping Lucille maintain her fashionista status all these years. Love and Miss you. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Lucille’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Lucille Rogers, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, CALGARY, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
