Obituary of Jenny SOO

January 23, 1931 – Calgary, Alberta
January 3, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Jenny Soo passed away at the age of 89 on January 3, 2021 from complications related to COVID-19. She was predeceased by Joe Soo her husband of 51 years.  She is survived by her 2 children, Carol (Al) Durnie and David Soo of Calgary.  Jenny was the middle of 10 children, survived by her sisters, Violet Chow, Lily Chow, Nellie Lowe and Betty Nakamura; and one brother, Robert Chow.

Growing up in Calgary, she attended Langevin High.  In her adult years, she attended the Henderson School of Business completing her business secretary credentials.  Her working years included working at the Alberta Wheat Pool, Suncor Energy and the City of Calgary.

As a true and proud Calgarian, Jenny loved all things Calgary.  She supported local events and made sure she took in the Calgary Stampede each year.  When the 1988 Olympics came to Calgary, she waved her Calgary and Canada flag.  She loved Calgary.

In her retirement, she enjoyed bowling, square dancing, tai chi and attending the Calgary Opera.  A closet sci-fi lover, she would enjoy the latest sci-fi /fantasy movies with David.  Her love for nature spilled to tending her yard in the summer and walking around Banff and Kananaskis as much as she was able.

She will be remembered for her laugh, big smile and kindness towards others.

Keeping with her wishes, no formal services will be held.  A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Queen’s Park Cemetery.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jenny’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.  If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her name.

Our thanks to the many dedicated health professionals at the Foothills Medical Center, Unit 64 whose care, compassion and comfort were present in her final days.

In living memory of Jenny Soo, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
