Obituary of Barbara Patricia Rannelli

July 1, 1938 – Calgary, Alberta
January 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

With the saddest of hearts, we acknowledge our mother’s passing. However, we are comforted knowing she is with our father and happy once again. Barb loved all her boys, but she especially loved her soulmate, George, and has missed him terribly. Mom to Michael (Pam), Dennis (Lynn), and Danny (Lorane); and Nana to Alison, Stephen, Luke, Chris, Daniel and Dawn Marie; passed peacefully in her home on Wednesday, January 6th. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Barb was a true born and raised Calgarian. Our dad always told the story of how he met her at a Currie Barrack’s dance and followed her home. He knew he was in love and they were married for sixty years. She had various part-time jobs throughout her life, but most of her time was spent raising three boys and keeping them out of trouble. She loved camping, long walks, and volunteering with George for various causes (Poppy Fund, Veterans Food Bank, and Canadian Legion). But Mom’s true passion was animals and the slew of dogs and cats that our dad would bring home. At seventy-five, Barb had an image of her dog, Kobe, tattooed the whole length of her right calf. She didn’t tell anyone she was getting the tattoo and kept it from our father for over a week to surprise him on Christmas Day. She was on her own when she went to the tattooist, but we would have loved to see the look on his face when he saw a seventy-five-year-old asking for a tattoo. Kobe too is on the walk with her and Dad today.
