Obituary of Ida BENNETT (nee Johnson)

January 7, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Ida Bennett, beloved wife of the late Roy Bennett, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the age of 98 years.

Ida was born in Farnworth, England on November 3, 1922.  She started school at the age of three and left at fourteen to work for Burton’s Tailors. During WWII Ida served her country as a welder assembling tanks and shell casings, and training others in London and Manchester

Ida married Roy Bennett in 1947. They immigrated to Canada in 1957, moving to Toronto. Once in Canada, she devoted her life to her family and her love of the Lord Jesus.  Ida was a strong prayer warrior, always praying for others.

Ida is survived by her three daughters and three sons-in-law, Valerie Johnson (Donald) and Carol Flanagan (Ian) of Calgary, Alberta, and Gillian Ward (David) of Toronto, Ontario; six grandchildren, Erin Cooper (Clarence), Andrea Gadicke (Dan), Adam Johnson (Jenny), Emily Flanagan (Pete Thody), Nicole Flanagan, and Cabot Ward;  six great-grandchildren, Ben and Emma Cooper, Arthur and Eloise Johnson, Oliver Gadicke, and Pierson Thody; and her very good friend Donna Saccutelli.

Ida is also survived by her sister-in-law Elsie Willis, and numerous nieces and nephews in England.

Ida was predeceased by her husband Roy Bennett in 1995; her parents, Maggie and William Johnson; and her four siblings, Fred, Harry, Norman, and Eva.
