Daniel (Dan) SHIRLEY

Obituary of Daniel (Dan) Earl SHIRLEY

June 28, 1958 – Plaster Rock, New Brunswick

January 13, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Daniel Shirley of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the age of 62 years.

Born on June 28, 1958 in Plaster Rock, NB, Dan was a son of Gerri Shirley of Halifax, NS, and the late Reggie Shirley of Guelph, ON.

For over twenty-eight years, Dan was the loving husband of the late

Darlene Shirley (nee Cheverie). They began their journey as High School sweethearts in Dartmouth, NS. She was his soul mate and best friend. Following their marriage in 1978, they created and lived a rich life together in Elora, ON, where Dan ran a successful business and they raised their children.

He was the proud father of Angela Shirley (John Worth) of Calgary, AB, Kevin Shirley of Montréal, QC, and the loving grandfather of Noah.  Dan was also the brother of Richard (Jeanne) Shirley and Ronnie Shirley of Halifax, NS.

Following the loss of his wife in 2007, Dan moved to Calgary, AB, and began the next chapter of his life as a Building Operations Manager. His friends and colleagues at Abba’s Maintenance and the Dorchester Square community will remember him fondly for his great sense of humor, positive and friendly manner, and his willingness to lend a hand when needed. He was a man who always gave compliments to others, but was too humble to receive them himself. He has made a lasting impression to all who lived and worked in the community that he cherished so much.

Though his family and friends will miss Dan, we take comfort that he has been reunited with his beloved Darlene and that he is once again singing while she plays songs on the guitar.
