Bertha OMELUSIK

Obituary of Bertha Ellen OMELUSIK

OMELUSIK, Bertha Ellen (nee Rumsey)
September 22, 1938 – Hillcrest, Alberta
January 17, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Bertha Omelusik passed away quickly at her home in Calgary on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

Mum was born and raised in the foothills of Southern Alberta. She left there to become a nurse. While training in Calgary, she met a cheeky fellow named Fred. They were married in 1960 and had fifty-one years and three children together.

Mum was many things to many people and was known as the queen of hugs. She loved trees and would give them hugs as well if she thought they needed it. Mountains, waterfalls, dancing, and people were among the many things she loved. She was always expanding the family by adopting people into it. For many years she supported and volunteered at Alpha House. She touched the hearts and souls of many people in her life’s journey here and we are all better and richer for having been blessed to have her in our lives.

Bertha is survived by her children, Keith, Karen, and Amy; grandchildren, Elise, Clinton (Kathy), Natasha, Theresa (Tyler), and Ken; three great-grandchildren, and many other extended and adopted family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In preparation, please send tributes, photos, memories, and stories to rememberingbertha@gmail.com. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed on Bertha’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Bertha’s name may be made directly to the Calgary Alpha House Society
