Obituary of Joseph (Joey) Nicholas GRUDENIC

February 8, 1995 – Calgary, Alberta
January 19, 2021 – Brooks, Alberta

Joseph (Joey) Nicholas Grudenic of Brooks, AB, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the age of 25 years.

Joey was a free spirit, unique in every way and a caring father for his family. He always had his own way of doing things and he put so much effort in anything he did. He had a gentle soul and so much love inside him, he would help anyone who asked, even if this meant going without himself. He often thought of and praised his two girls and wanted to give them everything good in this world. Joey loved the outdoors and being free in the universe. Joey enjoyed unique fast cars, loved displaying his different paraphernalia and had a passion for playing and collecting Yugioh cards. His smile, laugh, random jokes and distinctive analysis of life will always be the greatest joy for anyone who knew him.

Joey would always think of others before he would think of himself. Please honour and celebrate him in whatever way he helped, touched or friended your life.

Joey’s favourite quote was from the Eminem song ‘Beautiful’: “God gave you the shoes that fit you, so put’em on and wear’em. And be yourself man, be proud of who you are. Even if it sounds corny, don’t ever let no one tell you, ‘You ain’t beautiful’.”

Joey is survived by his two daughters, Joanna and Lilly Grudenic-Tatoiu of Brooks, Alberta; the girls’ mother Lynzie Tatoiu of Brooks, Alberta; father Joseph Grudenic of Toronto, Ontario; mother and stepfather, Marilyn Simpson and Brent Coombs of Cochrane, Alberta; his sister Christina Grudenic of Edmonton, Alberta, his nephew Mak Coutts of  Edmonton, Alberta; his grandmother Kathy Grudenic of Toronto, Ontario, his uncle George Grudenic of Toronto, Ontario; his four stepbrothers and two sisters-in-law, Corey and Tina Coombs of Strathmore, Alberta, Jason and Rhonda Coombs of Regina, Saskatchewan, Riley Coombs of Calgary, Alberta, Tanner Coombs of Calgary, Alberta; as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Joey was predeceased by his grandfather George Grudenic Sr. of Toronto, Ontario; grandfather and grandmother, Winston and Mary Simpson of Carman, Manitoba.

Per Joey’s family’s wishes, there will be no formal end-of-life service. Instead, they ask that in his memory, you perform a random act of kindness to a stranger. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to The Mustard Seed at giving.theseed.ca for Calgary.

In living memory of Joseph Grudenic, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE NW, CALGARY, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
