Obituary of John Arthur David EBERSOLE

January 1, 1937 – Toronto, Ontario
January 27, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

John, beloved husband of Loretta (Lorrie) Mary Theresa Ebersole (nee Hickey) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the age of 84 years with his loving wife by his side.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye for now to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend.  John was the only child of his late parents Edgerton and Jesse Ebersole.  He was raised in Toronto and graduated from Ryerson University in Electronics Technology, Engineering.  In the mid-1960s, he moved to Ottawa where he worked at Carleton University before joining the Government of Canada with Energy, Mines and Resources.  An avid reader, skier and craftsman, John was known as the “go to” guy by anyone needing a book, woodworking tool, computer component or a helping hand.  He was a long-time member of the Britannia Yacht Club and spent many happy hours sailing the Ottawa River on his sailboat Kymo.  In 1976 he was thrilled to be on a crew in the summer Olympic sailing trials in Kingston, ON.

He met the love of his life Lorrie in 1987 and they married the following year. They loved to dance and were long-time members of two Ottawa-area Old Tyme Fiddler associations.  In 2009, they relocated to Calgary to be closer to their family and cheer on their grandson Andrew in his many sporting and musical adventures.

Besides his loving wife Lorrie, John leaves behind his step children, Vance (Kathy) Megrath, Vickie Megrath (Bill Doxsee), all of Calgary, AB, and step grandson Andrew Furedy of Winnipeg, MB.   He was respected and loved by sisters-in-law, May Quilty (late Ken) of Ottawa, ON, Olive Brown (Bill Childs) of Mountain, ON, and Muriel Inglis (Ron) of Ottawa, ON and their families.  We will miss his loving heart, words of wisdom, sense of humour and inviting smile. Until we meet again.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on John’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.   If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.

In living memory of John Ebersole, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB T2A 3V9, Telephone: 403-248-8585.
