Obituary of Lajos (Louis) FENYVESI

January 31, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we share that Lajos (Louis) Fenyvesi passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 with his dearly beloved wife, Marguerite, by his side.

Lajos was proud to be Székely. He was born in Szentes, in the Székely land of Transylvania, in the province of Zágon. He lived in Cegléd, Hungary and went to university in Budapest. He left Hungary after completing the Ph.D. in Physics.

On his arrival in Canada he worked at the CNR, U of A, Stanford, U of C and then started his own companies, including Eltron Canada Ltd. He did research and development, designed and manufactured products in diverse fields, and held a number of patents. He was a man of integrity and extremely talented. He had many areas of interest and expertise: he raised birds and loved opera, he would devour technical journals and could recite Latin poetry, he was a connoisseur of art, especially copper cuts, and Hungarian ceramics. He made intricate metal and wood items, including beautiful furniture, and did all steps on his house building project.

He was happy to visit Hungary frequently over the last twenty years and especially cherished the times when family came along.

He was a man of courage. He came to Canada alone, but was then taken in by Marguerite's extended family. He is survived by his treasured wife of almost fifty-nine years, Marguerite. He is also survived by his loving family: his son Louis Lajos, his daughter-in-law Amanda, his grandchildren, Emily Fenyvesi and her husband Connor London, Owen Lajos Fenyvesi, and Elizabeth Fenyvesi. He was so proud of them all. He is also survived by his caring sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marion and Leo Berchtold. He is so greatly missed by us all, and also by Mitsie, his dear cat. He was predeceased by his parents, Ilona and Lajos.

A Private Funeral Service will be held, Rev. Bertalan Bocskorás officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Calvin Hungarian Presbyterian Church, 101 - 14 Ave. S.W., Calgary, AB  T2R 0L8. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Louis’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Louis Fenyvesi, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE NW, CALGARY, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
