Obituary of John Dean MALUS

January 23, 1953 – Vancouver, British Columbia

February 3, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

John Malus, beloved husband of Karen McIntosh, of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the age of 68 years.

John graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSc in Physical Therapy. He played amateur football in Winnipeg, during University and was signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. John decided to continue with his university studies and switched from a Master’s program to become a physical therapist. He moved with his first wife, Colleen, to Calgary, allowing them both to work as physiotherapists. John was an avid rock/ice climber, skier, recreational hockey player and windsurfer. Over time he became focused on golf, target shooting and gardening.

John accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his work as a Physiotherapist in Cardiac ICU with AHS at Holy Cross, Rockyview and most recently at Foothills. His life and activities focused on his family, Erik, Todd (Darya), and wife Karen. His other joy came from golf - getting the ball to go where he wanted at the Tooth of the Dog Pound Creek course, and in the winter going to the golf dome to stay in form. The best of both worlds for him was to golf with his family.

Besides his loving wife Karen, John is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Erik Malus of Calgary, and Todd Malus and Darya Kosilova of Vancouver; his brother and sister-in-law Dale and Ruth Malus of Calgary; mother-in-law Esther McIntosh; Uncle Neil (Maureen) Zachary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was predeceased by his parents, Eva (Ewdoska) Zachozy and John George Malus.
