Lawrence NYCHOLAT

Obituary of Lawrence Donald NYCHOLAT

May 21, 1949 – Rose Valley, Saskatchewan
February 14, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

“The measure of a man is not how he died or what he gained, but how he lived and what he gave.”

Lawrence Nycholat Sr., our beloved Husband, Dad and Grandpa, passed away surrounded by family at home on February 14, 2021 at the age of 71.

He was the oldest of four children born to Daniel and Teena Nycholat. Lawrence was born in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan where he grew up playing hockey with tenacity and passion.

Upon completion of high school, Lawrence moved to Calgary to begin the next chapter of his life and during this time he met his beautiful and loving wife, Mary Ellen. They were married on October 21, 1972 and started their life together in Calgary. They settled into their home in Silver Springs in 1975, and Lawrence poured his heart into building the home where he and Mary Ellen would raise their five children.

Lawrence dedicated his life to loving and nurturing his family. His greatest joys and triumphs in life were the successes of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Some of his favorite moments were watching his family play sports. Those close to him were fortunate to feel his warmth, strength, generosity, and faith.

He is loved dearly, respected greatly, and will be remembered forever. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Mary Ellen, five children, Michelle, Janifer, Lawrence, Denise, and Daniel. He also has ten grandchildren that will keep him close to their heart: Blake, Brody, Chase, Bennett, Anders, Nash, Elle, Alice, Briggs, and Mary; along with his siblings, Ed, Erwin, and Vivian.

The Funeral Vigil and the Burial Service will be celebrated at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church.

If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Calgary Mustard Seed (www.theseed.ca) and/or Catholic Missions In Canada (www.cmic.info).
