Obituary of Effie Evelyn KUFELDT (nee Fraser)

December 19, 1935 - Atikameg, Alberta
February 17, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, Effie, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at home  at the age of 85 years.

Effie will be forever missed and remembered by her husband of 63 years, Otto, and their precious children, Michael (Susan), Sharon (Christopher) and Elizabeth (Kurt); and her much adored grandchildren, Logan, Hunter Olivia, Lucas and Leyton. Effie will also be forever remembered by her many dear friends.

Effie was born in Atikameg, AB in 1935 on December 19. Her mother, Nancy, wished to name her Holly, as she was a Christmas baby, but her father, Hugh, won out with a family name and they settled on Effie. When she married Otto, there was no end to the giggles at the handsome new couple’s wonderfully unique moniker - Effie and Otto; or Eff and Ott to most of their dear friends! Effie was a fiercely loyal mother and grandmother and this trait of loyalty was unmistakable to all who knew her. You would never mess with this mama bear. This allegiance and devotion was especially evident when the grandkids teams were playing. She never missed one of their games or dance recitals, and you knew she was there as she could whistle like no one else. Effie even brought her competitive spirit and desire to be active on to the golf course with Otto where she loved to be! And let’s not forget what a passionate fan she was of the Flames and Stamps. Effie’s love of family and much coveted together-time meant she would prepare plenty of food and ensure everyone had what they needed. But it was her baking, which was especially stellar, that really stood out. Effie was generous of soul and loved nothing more than to give. She took the notion of giving at Christmas to another level. And, once the grandkids arrived on the scene, she upped her giving game even further, which we didn’t think was possible! Effie loved to laugh. If you got hit in the shoulder while she was is in full belly-laugh mode, you knew it was very funny. Her wicked sense of humour, which she got from her mother Nan, was passed on to all her kids and grandkids and it will be remembered as one of her most glorious traits! She will be dearly missed.
