Obituary of Marlynn Alice BAECK

August 2, 1934 – Montreal, Quebec
February 17, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Marlynn’s ten year fight against cancer came to an end Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the age of 86 years. 

Marlynn was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, joining in 1975. Over the years she held every elected position and was often voted chapter sweetheart, woman of the year by her sisters. In 1990 she received the Order of the Rose, a very distinguished honour rarely awarded. She was also awarded the Torch bearer degree which is the highest honour in sorority.

Marlynn had a real zest for life; she loved to laugh and was an amazing hostess. Her parties and dinners were second to none, always with a different theme to make the night unique. Marlynn’s interests in all areas of life were never ending;  she especially loved theatre and the ballet. Exploring her creative side, Marlynn enjoyed painting, knitting, cross-stitch and many other crafts. She would create beautiful hand-made items that were sold in the children’s store during Heritage Park’s 12 days of Christmas. She also volunteered in the store for many years and truly loved helping children pick out presents for their loved ones. More recently she made knitted dolls for Operation Shoebox so children in underprivileged countries could have a special toy all their own.

Marlynn will be greatly missed by her husband of sixty-four years, John, her daughter Tanya (Lawrence), her grandchildren, Jordan (Krystle), Taylor and Dakota; as well as friends too numerous to mention.  She will also be remembered by her brother Gary (Linda) and her nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Tom Baker cancer centre, Alberta Home care and the nurses from Paramed for everything they did to help Marlynn through her journey.
