Obituary of Herbert Aldin PETTS

June 24, 1936 – Verdun, Quebec

February 17, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heartbreaking sadness that the family of Herbert (Herb) Petts announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, February 17, 2021.

Herb, the only child of Bert and Lizzy Petts, was born in Verdun, Quebec and grew up in Lachine, Quebec where he attended school. Herb married his “dream girl” Sheila Rice, and together they had two children, Susan and Garth.  In 1968 Herb and Sheila moved to Calgary, and later to Edmonton. Herb spent his working life in Telecommunications, first at Bell Canada, and later at AGT/Telus.

He was a natural athlete and enjoyed skiing, sailing, handball, squash, golf and hockey (Calgary 55+ Hockey Club). While residing in Edmonton, Herb and Sheila were members of the Belvedere Golf and Country Club. Travel was an important part of their lives, with trips to Japan, Europe, Great Britain, and winters spent in the sun. Herb’s greatest love was his family, whom he enjoyed spending his time with creating many fond memories.

He will be deeply missed by his wife and soulmate of 64 years, Sheila Petts (nee Rice), daughter Susan Rozak (Tom), son Garth Petts (Donna), and his grandchildren Nichole Langlois (Aaron), Samantha Petts (Manorie Vachon), Spencer Rozak, Elizabeth Rozak, bonus grandchildren Samara Toews (Stew Allan), Mckayla Toews, and Joni Toews. Herb will remain in the hearts of his brother-in-law, Bill Rice (Judy) of Calgary, AB, sisters-in-law, Sandra Tyres of Caroline, AB and Mary Lou Price of St. John, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Herb’s time with each of them was incredibly special and treasured!

The Celebration of Herb’s life will be held at a later date. If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Herb’s Obituary at www.mcInnisandholloway.com.
