Obituary of Dorothy Jean HOPKINS

May 11, 1925 – Wainwright, Alberta
March 1, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Jean Hopkins of Calgary passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at age 95.

Jean moved to Calgary in 1949 with her family. She married Dr. Henry T. Hopkins in 1951 and made Calgary their home, raising their three sons.

Jean’s life revolved around her family and friends in Calgary and Sylvan Lake, where they built the summer cottage she loved. She was faithful and loyal in all of her relationships. Jean was a life-long learner with a sharp intellect and dry humour. Though quiet and reserved, she had a resilient spirit with much tenacity and character. She was gentle and kind, and loved deeply. Jean excelled in sewing, cooking, and was delighted when family sat around her kitchen table. She greatly enjoyed her travels to Europe, Hawaii, and her many trips to California and Oregon.  Her faith was important to her and was very involved in her church.

Jean is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Barbara of Calgary; Stuart of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and David and Jill of Calgary; three grandchildren, Thomas (Katie) Hopkins, Jody Hopkins, and Rosalind (Mark) Coben, and three great grandchildren, Jackson Hopkins, Theo and Maggie Coben. Jean will also be remembered by a number of special friends and family members.

Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Henry in 1984; sister Betty Pardee, and brother Tom Cardell, both in 2002.

A private family funeral service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  If friends so desire, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to St. Laurence Anglican Church (5940 Lakeview Drive SW, Calgary, AB T3E 5S8). Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jean’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
