Obituary of Eleanor Ruth WERSCH

October 18, 1925 –Winnipeg, Manitoba November 21, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta Eleanor beloved wife of Lloyd Wersch of Calgary, AB passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg. She was raised in the Lutheran faith which meant a lot to her throughout her entire life. She was always interested in helping others. After graduating high school she went to work for Great West Life. As a young lady she met the love of her life, Lloyd, who was at that time in the Canadian Air Force. They were married approximately two years later on August 23, 1947 celebrating seventy years together in 2017. Shortly after their marriage Dad’s work took them to Flin Flon, MB where their first son Ken was born on August 7, 1948. They later returned to Winnipeg where their daughter Marnie was born on April 7, 1951. Mom enjoyed being in Winnipeg close to her parents, her sister Margaret and her husband Bob and their children Gerry and Cheryl. Bob was Dad’s brother so the relationship between the two families was very close and many good times were had over the years. Dad’s work with Manitoba Hydro took them to Brandon, MB sometime around 1957. Their Son David was born there on January 1, 1959. In 1964 a special work opportunity arose for Dad through Hydro and the whole family moved to Trinidad in the West Indies. Mom took every challenge and move in stride. Her patience and organizational skills served her well during all these years and she never complained. In 1966 they returned to Manitoba as Dad continued his career with Hydro. They spent the first year or so in Selkirk and then two years at Great Falls, MB. In the late sixty’s they transferred back to Selkirk where they resided until 1978. During those times in Selkirk many special memories were also made. Her three children graduated school and began their careers. Both Ken and Marnie met the love of their lives and were married and grandchildren began to arrive. Mom really enjoyed those times as well as being close to Winnipeg, so that family could be visited regularly. She also enjoyed being a part of the Good Shepherd Lutheran church and the ladies auxiliary. During these years Mom and Dad had a very special group of friends in Selkirk who they often got together with or travelled with. In 1978 Dad’s final work transfer took them to Brandon. While they lived in a few locations in Brandon their favourite was the acreage. The garden and flowers there were a favourite of hers. Her interests included cooking, needlepoint, puzzles and word puzzles to name a few. Over the years and in retirement Dad’s love for Labrador Retrievers also took them to many places. They enjoyed travelling with a travel trailer and the dogs all over Canada and U.S. covering virtually every province and state. Although she never complained about the dogs it must be said there are some funny stories over how to properly throw plugs for training the dogs. On occasion Dad being left to do it on his own if the instructions were repeated too often. For a number of years they had a trailer in Weslaco Texas where they enjoyed many winters together with good friends, many of whom were from Manitoba. In 2001 or so they moved to Steinbach as Ken and David were living there. Shortly after this time symptoms of mom’s memory challenges started to show. With their son’s work taking them away from Steinbach, Mom & Dad moved to Kelowna where winters were warmer and Dad’s sister and family also lived. As health slowly declined for Mom they relocated to Calgary in 2009. Mom and Dad enjoyed the opportunity to see children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more often. Besides her loving husband Lloyd, Eleanor is survived by her daughter-in-law Karen Wersch, her daughter and son-in-law Marnie and Jack Lee, son and daughter-in-law David and Elaine Wersch. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; Kerry-Lynn Wersch-Fielden (Kevin), Christina Wersch, Ryan Wersch (Ozen), Sandy Shaffar (Paul), Aaron Lee (Jennifer), Matthew Wersch (Diane), Jodie Klassen (Devon) and thirteen great-grandchildren; Kieran, Moira, Ainsley, Hayden, Garein, Ada, Jack, Taylor, Hunter, Ruby, Woodson, Redford and Mary. She was predeceased by her son Kenneth Wersch, sister Margaret Wersch and parents Ralph and Millie Exner.
