Obituary of Arnhold Michael STANG

December 13, 1937 – Macklin, Saskatchewan
March 30, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Arnhold Michael Stang of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the age of 83 years.

Arnhold (Arnie) Stang was born to Alex and Annie Stang in Macklin, SK, on December 13, 1937. Shortly after his birth the Stang family moved to Ohaton a small hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Camrose County.

Arnie along with his brothers, helped with the daily chores of farm life before spreading his wings and moving to the big City of Calgary where he began to learn the sheet metal trade and apprenticing with his brother Peter eventually graduating from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) with a diploma in Sheet Metal Fabrication and Construction and obtaining his journeyman’s certificate shortly thereafter.

During this time, Arnie also met and married the love of his life, Bonnie (Heard) on September 6, 1958.

He was a member of the Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Alberta. Arnie was a talented and hard-working sheet metal worker, becoming foreman of Watson Sheet Metal at a very young age due to his incredible talent and irreproachable work ethic. He worked tirelessly and accomplished much through his life but was particularly proud of having been instrumental in fabricating much of the Heating and Ventilation ducts in some of Calgary’s most prominent commercial projects, including the Petro-Canada High-rise towers as well as the famous Saddledome Multi-use indoor Arena.

Arnie enjoyed attending the many Stang Reunions in Camrose to share in family traditions music and laughter.

Arnie was also an avid card player that seemed to win more often than not. He enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing with his son and grandsons. He loved playing outdoor throwing games on his acreage near High River Alberta where he’d challenge anyone to a friendly game of horseshoes or bones. He played to win and seldom lost, but if he did, he’d always say “I’ll beat you next time.”

Arnie will be remembered for his great sense of humor, gentleness of spirit, and generosity. But above all, he will be fondly remembered for his unfailing and endless love for his family.

Arnie is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Bonnie (Heard); son, Kelly(Julie); daughters, Kim Lovell, Cindy Fortin (Erik), Tammy Watts, all of Calgary, AB, as well as his five precious grandchildren, Devon Lovell, Kelsea and Austin Stang, Cedric and Caleb Fortin; brothers, Wille and Leo (Phyllis); sisters, Beatrice (Bob) Krottner, Ida Zieffle of Calgary and Pat (Leo) Stang; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

“We will all miss you every day until we see each other again.”

Arnie was predeceased by his father Alex and mother Annie; five brothers, Joe, Eddie, Alex, Peter and Larry; two sisters, Mary and Louise; sister-in-law, Marlaina Stang; brother-in-law, Ron Inverarity; and by grand-daughter, Amber Yvonne Watts.

A Private Celebration of Arnhold’s Life has taken place. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Arnhold’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
