Obituary of Deberlie Theresa LOPEZ-JIMENEZ (nee Good Eagle)

Deberlie Theresa Lopez-Jimenez (nee Good Eagle) of Siksika and Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the age of 62 years.

Deberlie (Mahkakii) was born and raised on the Blackfoot reserve. She was raised by both her grandparents Paul Good Eagle, Paul & Nora Wolf Collar, Uncle Floyd & Violet Good Eagle. She attended residential school at the Crowfoot Indian Day School. She was outgoing and also known to be very athletic as she demonstrated by helping her junior-high school Girls Basketball team win the County Championship Tournament in 1973. She was a natural skilled pool player in her early teens.

Deb’s was known for her sense of humor and was also fluent in the Blackfoot Language.  Deberlie made her cursillo in 2010 on the Siksika Nation.  She was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Church both in Siksika and in Calgary St. Mary’s Cathedral. Deberlie had a very close relationship with Elaine whom she grew up with. She often referred to Elaine as “Goody Gumdrop’ while she was the rebel. Deberlie made numerous friends where-ever she journeyed throughout the course of her life.

Deberlie used her time and energy to lend her support to all those she knew who were in need of care and comfort whether they were in the hospital and attended her friends funerals. She was known for her generousity preparing meals for her neighbors and also to the less fortunate on the streets of Calgary, she loved to attend the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth – the Calgary Stampede.

Deberlie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had numerous friends that we are unable to name them. We apologize for anyone we may have missed. The family would also like to extend heart warm gratitude & appreciation for the services made available by these organizations: Calgary Elizabeth Fry Society, Calgary Native Friendship Society, Mustard Seed, Awa’to’tan and the Calgary Urban Project Society. 

 

Deberlie is the beloved mother of Cecile, Savannah (Chris), Vernita (Mike), Jaylene, and Nora (Adonis); her precious grandchildren, Kobe, Rosalina, Frankie, Shawnee, Maeanna, Lael, Javen, Nehemiah, Adonis, Zephaniah, and Adoiah; and her great-grandson Kenai. She was a loving sister to Leroy (Marsha), Jill, and Cecille (Horton); a niece to her maternal and paternal uncles and aunties, Uncle Mike Wolfleg, Loretta Pauline, Cyril, Ralph, Floyd (Violet), and Kelly Good Eagle; Deberlie also leaves to mourn her nephews and nieces whom she loved and cherished, Charlene, Dora (Bobby), Lillian (Marcel), Tyrone, Deandra, Janine, Crystal, Nevin, Jacey, Brett and Leslie.

 

Deberlie is predeceased by her son Denny Lee Good Eagle, her parents, Cecil and Jane Good Eagle; her sisters, Laverna and Gertrude; her nephews, Elroy, Reginal, Waylon and Horton Jr; her maternal and paternal uncles and aunties, from the Wolf Collar and Good Eagle families.

 

A viewing will be held at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes (5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary) on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. (Family viewing at 11:00 a.m.) Graveside Service to follow at Little Washington Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB).  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Deberlie’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
