Obituary of Leonard "Alan" RONNEY

May 5, 1950 - Lethbridge, Alberta
April 14, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Ronney on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

Alan was born in Lethbridge and raised in nearby Nobleford. He was so very proud of his Southern Alberta upbringing and heritage. After graduating high school in Nobleford, Alan went on to study Petroleum Engineering at SAIT and graduated in 1972 as an Engineering Technologist. He went on to work for numerous oil and gas companies and, after retiring in 2016, always laughingly referred to himself as “Al with Many Jobs”.

It was with mixed emotions in 2016 that Alan left his beloved Alberta to retire with his wife and best friend, Sandy, in Cranbrook, BC. There they built their dream home and spent many hours living and loving the Kootenay Life. Countless hours were spent golfing, hiking the beautiful mountains, and kayaking pristine lakes in their new home area.

Alan is survived by his wife Sandra, daughters, Charmaine Ng (Tat), Janae Lawlor (James), and Megan Sullivan (Paul); grandchildren, Kearse, Landon and Elizabeth Lawlor; sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Marvin DeBoer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Gladys Ronney (1972), father Theodore Ronney (1998), and daughter Raelyn Palmer (2005).

A Private Family Service will be held, on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. and Alan’s remains will be interred at Queen’s Park Mausoleum in Calgary. Family and friends are invited to join Mr. Ronney’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. We will also be holding a Celebration of Alan’s Life for friends and extended family following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a memorial donation directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, www.albertacancer.ca/memorial.

In living memory of Alan Ronney, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
