Obituary of Fritz Karl REIF

August 12, 1935 – Kassel, Germany

April 24, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Fritz Karl Reif of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the age of 85 years.

Fritz was born in Kassel, Germany on August 12, 1935. He immigrated to Calgary, AB, from Germany in 1957.

Fritz graduated from regular school in Germany at the age of fourteen, then starting his apprenticeship training as a finishing and cabinet carpenter.  He worked in this occupation for his entire working career.  Fritz had a very high standard for his work, creating many masterpieces using wood.  His artistic ability was possibly inherited from his grandfather, whom was a painter.

Fritz met the love of his life, Tilly Rasskopf, in 1961 and they were together until her passing in 2007. Tilly and Fritz bought their house in Acadia, Calgary in 1963 and they lived in this beloved home until each of their passing’s. They loved to share their home and hospitality with family and friends.  There was always a cup of coffee, a “stuck kuchen” and chair for family and friends who came by for a visit.

Fritz enjoyed taking care of his home, yard and vehicles, but most of all he loved making sausages his “secret way”.  Fritz made a variety of deli meats and his high standard for quality showed in what he produced.

Fritz is survived by his brother Egon (Sally), niece Rosalin, sister Inge, Tilly’s niece Ilse, many nieces and nephews, some of whom held a special spot in his heart, neighbour Mike (Brigitte), friend and doctor Dr. Vaclav Hoyer and a very caring team of caregivers and many friends.

Fritz was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Eric, and Ilse’s husband, Frank.

As per Fritz’s wishes, his ashes will be joined with those from Tilly and spread privately.
