Obituary of Marie Dora KOSTIUK

October 24, 1929 – Nipawin, Saskatchewan
April 24, 2021– Calgary, Alberta

With aching hearts we have to say goodbye to Marie Kostiuk of Calgary, AB, who passed away from heart failure on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Marie lived a full life and passed at the age of 91 years.

As a single parent, mom worked hard to care for her children. Trained as a nurse, she worked in Senior Care and retired in 1992 from health issues.  But she really didn’t retire, being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses,  she started her second career of “Pioneering” for sixteen years until she could no longer continue due to worsening health, but sharing the “Good News” of God’s Kingdom never stopped.

Mom was as avid crocheter, had over 200 owls in her collection and made the best cinnamon buns and bottomless Wonton Soup! Mom had little sight left from Macula, and dementia increased, but was still able to get around with her walker.  Mom was able to stay home, thanks to the wonderful caregivers, Libby, Jocelyn, Julie, Lyla, Cecille, and her good friend Arlene who would sit with mom.

Mom fully believed in the hope of The Resurrection from John 5:28, 29 and the comfort it gives us knowing she is sleeping for a short while.  Mom told many, “At my funeral, play “Move Ahead”! I want them to think of the Kingdom, not of me”

Marie will be remembered as a loving mother to her three children, Mel, Marilyn Moyen, Ray/Carla all of Calgary; grandmother to eight, great-grandmother to sixteen, and great-great-grandmother to seven. She was also Aunt to many nieces and nephews and friend to All.
