Obituary of Doreen REINKE (nee Purdy)

September 28, 1930 – April 24, 2021

It’s with deep sadness we announce that our mom, Doreen Reinke passed away peacefully at AgeCare Glenmore on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the age of 90.   She was predeceased by Otto, her loving husband of 65 years.

Mom had many accomplishments over the years.  While living in Saskatoon she was magazine editor for the Western Producer newspaper and a free-lance photographer.  She told us meeting Dad was love at first sight.  They married and moved to Calgary in 1969 when Dad was transferred.  After raising three children she enjoyed a long career as a Business Manager in the medical field.

Her passions were reading, poetry and music (she had a beautiful singing voice).  She and Dad were avid curling fans. They enjoyed watching bonspiels on tv and rooting for their favorite team. She loved her annual Mother-Daughter trips to Banff (what happens in Banff stays in Banff).  She was not only our Mom, but our friend and confidante, always there for us with hugs and encouragement.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.  She is survived by her children, Julie (Kim), Brooks (Ruth), Lesli (Rob); and her grandchildren, Joel (Niki), Tyler and Charlene.  She had many life-long friendships which she treasured.  Of special mention is her dear friend Gail - she always looked forward to their lunches together at Smitty’s and Janet whose kindness during Dad’s progressing illness while Mom was in hospital was so appreciated.  The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pfeiffer and the dedicated staff at AgeCare Glenmore.  Their kindness and care will never be forgotten.

There will be no service held. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Doreen’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre https://www.albertacancer.ca/donate. In living memory of Doreen Reinke, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
