Antonio (Tony) Papararo passed away on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021, in his 88th year from the aggressive spread of cancer.

Tony was born in 1933 in Castel Volturno, Italy on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea he loved so much. He immigrated to Chelmsford, England in his early twenties where he met the love of his life, Raffaela (Lina) Urciouli whom he married in 1961 and had three children, Ivana, Jenifer and Gerry. He immigrated to Canada with his immediate family in the early 1970s and settled in Calgary.

Tony led a full and joyous life surrounded by extended family and built life-long friendships. He had a contagious laugh, wicked sense of humour and loved all music, especially opera, and also loved to sing and dance. Naturally social, Tony enjoyed eating well, making wine and sipping cognac with others. He was the life of the party. Tony also was an avid player of games, appreciating chess, dominos, backgammon, darts, bocce, and most infectiously, cards. He took pleasure in inventing tools and games, which included the “Century Tool” and the “Ring Game.” He loved to travel, prioritising visits to his hometown, family and old friends.

Tony will be mourned and deeply missed by his compassionate wife Lina Papararo and beloved children Ivana MacDougall, Jenifer Papararo and Gerry Papararo, and daughter-in-law Tina Papararo, grandson Erik Papararo, sons-in-law, Daniel Colussi and Jim MacDougall. He will also be missed by his step-granddaughters, Jennifer MacDougall and Kristin Butcher with and her daughter Harriet; as well as his brother Fausto, his sister Edvige Papararo, adn will join his siblings, Eugenio, Giulia, Giuseppina and Anna, and his parents, Maria and Vincenzo.

Tony will be bereaved by extended family, including his sister-in-law Antoinette Marra, nephew Carmen Marra, and niece Adele Stang and her husband Keith and son Luca. He will be mourned by his brother and sister-in-law Guido and Anna Urciuoli and warmly remembered by his nieces, Andrea Uriciouli and Sera Urciouli-Barry and her husband Scott and children, Matthew, Andrew, Justin and Anna and will also join his nephew Marc Urciouli. He will be dearly missed by his nieces, Maria Teresa and her husband Nicola Racaneli and their children, Daniel and Simone, his niece Milena Raimondo with her children, Edvige and Caterina, and his nephew Giovanni Raimondo.

This is to name only a few people who played important roles in Tony’s life and had the pleasure to laugh out loud with him. His presence was large and will be truly missed.
