Obituary of Vera BIG PLUME

Vera Big Plume of Tsuutʼina, AB, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the age of 83 years.

Vera was the eldest daughter of Napoleon and Marie Pelletier. She attended Residential School at Siksika and moved to Calgary where she met the love of her life Austin Big Plume. They married in August 1963, raising their two children together, Geraldine (Dolly) and Alex (Jim) until Austin’s passing in February of 1973. Ma supplemented her income after the passing of her husband by offering her cleaning services and through that service found a lifelong friend in Mrs. Lois Mooney. She met her second love, Gaspard (Manny) Delorme in 1981 they enjoyed their lives together until Manny’s passing in 1995.Vera was always a gracious host, welcoming family, friends and acquaintances with coffee or tea, and always with a smile and compassion. Always willing to lend a hand or a few dollars to whoever asked. A pet lover her entire life, she had an affinity for Chihuahuas and cats and in her final years taking to feeding the local strays around the North Sarcee, always concerned about who was going to look after them when she was gone.

Ma would not want a big fuss made of her life or her passing, she lived day by day, frugally and humbly, and yet the lives that she touched are all better for having basked in her light.

Vera is survived by her daughter Dolly (Brian) and their children, Loretta (Mark), Austin, Nicole, Angelina (Scott) and Cody; her son Jim (Deb) and their daughter Dante; Cheryl (Herb) and family; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Stella. She is also survived by her sisters, Sally (Jim), and Terri; her sisters-in-law, Faye Sewall, Joan Pascoe, Carol  Godfriedson and Connie Big Plume; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions will be followed. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Mrs. Vera Big Plume Tsuut’ina Nation, AB, on Sunday, May 09, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.
