Obituary of Norman Douglas GILBERT

 

September 24, 1948 - Lark Harbour, Newfoundland

May 13, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

 

It is with heavy hearts and beautiful memories, that we announce the passing of Norman Douglas Gilbert on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at the age of 72 years, after a 15 year illness of Alzheimer’s disease and Vascular Dementia.

 

Norman will be forever missed by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Linda, his daughter Lynne, and son-in-law Kirby; precious grandsons, Reed and Luc, sister Madeline Bartlett (Carl); brothers: Gerald (Leona), Ivan (Carol), Lee (Lois), and Roy (Winnie); sisters-in-law: Sharon Neville, and Beverly Callahan (Bill); brothers-in-law: Kevin Neville (Karen), Paul Neville (Allison), John Neville (Kelly), and Bruce Seward; as well many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including family members: Susan Wheeler, Trish Vincent-Neville and Sharon Peterson.

 

He was predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Phyllis Gilbert, parents-in-law, John and Mazie Neville, sister-in-law Helen Seward, nephew Jeffrey Gilbert and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

 

Born on September 24th, 1948 in Lark Harbour, NL, Norman was a friend to all who knew him. Throughout his work as a pipe fitter, he traveled from British Columbia to Norway. A man of integrity, he made many friends on his adventures. He loved hockey, golf, travelling, dancing, ice skating, boating, playing cards and he cherished his time with his family. He will be truly missed.  

 

Funeral services are entrusted to McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes in Calgary and Fillatre’s Funeral Homes in Corner Brook, NL. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 9, 2021 at St. James Anglican Church in Lark Harbour. Funeral services will be celebrated at St. James Anglican Church in Lark Harbour on Saturday, July 10, 2021, with interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery.

 

If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Care Centre (non-profit) in Calgary, St. James Anglican Church in Lark Harbour or a charity of one’s choice.
