Marion HUNTER

Obituary of Marion Elizabeth HUNTER

April 27, 1921 - St. John, New Brunswick
May 18, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Hunter on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the age of 100 years.

Marion was born April 27, 1921 in Saint John NB, to Charles Hugh and Elizabeth (nee Keith) Wiley.  Per Alberta's CoVID guidelines for senior care homes, Marion recently celebrated her 100th birthday at a small garden gathering at her residence at AgeCare Midnapore.
Marion was predeceased by her brother, RCAF Flt. Lt. Burton Keith Wiley in 1944, by her husband of 54 years, Walter S. Hunter in 1997, and by her son, Ronald Burton in 2017.  Marion leaves behind her two beloved grandchildren, Matthew of Calgary and Geoffrey of Montreal.

A dedicated homemaker and community church volunteer, Marion enjoyed working with many ladies’ church groups teaching quilt making and many related crafts.  She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter who was delighted to share her keen eye for colour and style with recipients of her handiwork.  She also made many other contributions as a choir member and pianist, travelling to Sweden for an international woman’s group and even editing a book prior to publication.

After marrying in Saint John, Marion moved with her husband, Walter, and their toddler to Winnipeg; then a second company move brought them to Montreal in 1966 where her little family grew to include a daughter-in-law and two very loved grandchildren.  Retirement in 1979 stirred them to return to Sussex, NB, to be with Marion's aging mother, and where they built a cosy home to welcome family and friends, until Marion herself was widowed in 1997.  Her final move was to Calgary in 1999 to be with her remaining family. She will be sorely missed by her family and wide social circle of kind friends who came to appreciate her caring and sharing ways over her 22 years in Calgary.

A private family service will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Marion’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Marion Hunter, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
