Obituary of Patricia Marilyn REYNOLDS (nee Casey)

May 9, 1925 – Didsbury, Alberta
May 24, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Pat, my “Second Mother”, passed away quietly and peacefully on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

Pat arrived at the farm in Didsbury, AB, on May 9, 1925, and was delivered by her grandmother, Nellie J. Casey. Pat was an enthusiastic farm girl, and at the age of thirteen took me for horseback rides when I was just six months old. She was a fun sister and certainly helped raise me. She made Christmas, Easter, Birthdays and other holidays very special for me. We planted gardens, rode horses, went fishing on Dogpound Creek and helped with chickens and turkeys; Pat made everything so much fun.

Pat went to the University of Alberta in Edmonton in 1941, at the age of sixteen. She graduated with a BS in Dietetics in May 1945. After graduation, her greatest wish was to go to the Toronto General Hospitals to begin her career. It was there, in the hospital, that she met a patient and her future husband, Francis “Frank” Alexander Reynolds. Much to our parent’s dismay, because Frank was over twenty years her senior, she and Frank were married, a few short months after she met him, on August 4, 1948. She continued to work and live with Frank in Toronto and together they opened Patrician Gifts on Avenue Road. They operated the little store for well over fifteen years.

Pat and Frank retired to Cochrane, AB, in 1988, purchasing a house close to Big Hill Lodge where our parents lived. Pat became a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Cochrane. After Frank passed away Pat continued to live in their house until moving into Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane, AB, from March 2008 until 2014, when she moved into Bow View Manor in Calgary.

Big Hill Lodge staff is to be commended for their care and kindness to both our parents, Dorie and Dewey Casey and to my sister Pat. Fay Winning from Pat’s University years was a good friend, travelling on many short trips with Pat after the loss of both their husbands. Sandy Grainger from Toronto continued her friendship with Pat through many letters, cards and phone calls when Pat moved to Alberta. This was much appreciated by both Pat and me. Pat’s close friend, Marguerite Norlander shared, among many other things, a love for their dogs, walking them together most days for several years. I owe Marguerite a debt of gratitude for her support, advice and loving care for Pat, because she assisted Pat in her daily living activities for many years. Later, Dawn Koenig was hired to transport Pat to her appointments, etc. Thanks to Dawn, there was quite often a treat of waffles and ice cream at Smitty’s after her appointments. Dawn’s care and patience with Pat were very much appreciated. Pat moved to Bow View Manor in Calgary in 2014. Her care on the Crowfoot Unit has been great, with patience, kindness and caring. Pat said more then once how much she appreciated the care she received at Bow View.

Pat is survived by me, her sister Sheila Noreen Dexter (nee Casey) of Calgary, AB, four nieces, Shannon Casey and Erin Casey both of California, Cora Lee Casey of Edmonton, AB, and Diane L. Foster (nee Dexter) of Shirley, BC; and two nephews, Daniel R. Dexter of Vernon, BC and David A. Dexter of High River, AB. Pat was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis “Frank” Alexander Reynolds of Cochrane, AB, our parents, Doris “Dorie” Ellen (nee Knight) and Charles “Dewey” Casey of Crossfield, AB; and her brother Dennis Harry Casey, his wife Gloria of Ontario, and their son, our nephew, Scott of Edmonton, AB.

There will be no Funeral or Memorial Service. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Pat’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Patricia Reynolds, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
