Obituary of Denise Marie ROMANUK (nee Walters)

June 19, 1965 – Trail, British Columbia

June 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Denise Romanuk, beloved wife of Doug Romanuk, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the age of 55 years. Denise was born in Trail, BC, on June 19, 1965. She later graduated from Caronport High School in 1983.

Her family came to be the pastor of Territorial Drive Alliance Church in North Battleford, SK in 1981, where she met Doug. They were later married on May 5, 1984.

She was an active member of the Alliance Churches she attended over the years and was talented in music, teaching, serving and had a very generous spirit. Denise accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her family, her work with Grace Children’s Home in Rosarito, MX and the many, many, lives she touched by simply being able to encourage, support and mentor the individuals she was in contact with. Denise was a home based missionary and loved to speak into peoples’ lives through text messages, emails, voice messages or video calls.

One of Denise’s favorite sayings was “Are you Serious!” This was always connected to something she felt very strongly about and couldn’t believe what she has just heard. This came from her very principled life, where she was very clear on right and wrong. Another favorite saying of Denise was “life is too short to beat around the bush”. She strongly disliked what she would call “fluff talk” and always had a strong desire to speak the truth and get to the bottom of the issue. Finally, her kind and genuine words of being able to say “I love you”. Her boys and Doug heard that over and over again, as did many others through her lifetime.

She will be most remembered for her selflessness, wisdom, humility, compassion and unwavering love and dedication to her family.  She was a virtuous woman in every way, as expressed in Proverbs 31.

Besides her loving husband Doug, Denise is survived by her three loving and devoted sons, Matthew of Kelowna, BC, Jeffrey of Battambang, Cambodia, and Jayson of Calgary, AB.

She is also survived by her estranged son Mitchell; her parents, Anne and Alvin of High River, AB; mother and father-in-law Jim and Cosy Romanuk of Saskatoon, SK; her granddaughter Alaina Parker Romanuk of Calgary, AB; her brother Dale Walters and his wife Cheri-Lynn, of Calgary, AB; her nephew Joshua and niece Kaylin; sister Debra Mulligan (nee Walters) and husband Greg, of Gibbons, AB; nephew Jonathan and niece Rachel; her other sister Deanne Sprague (nee Walters) and husband Brent of Ottawa, ON, and her nephew Simon and niece Rebekkah.
