Obituary of Glenn Roger PARKER

June 25, 1941 - North Battleford, Saskatchewan
July 10, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Glenn Parker of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the age of 80 years.

In the words of poet, Dylan Thomas, Glenn did “not go gentle into that good night.” Indeed, he raged “against the dying of the light.”

Glenn’s determination in the face of his recent cancer was as much a part of his personality as dignity and irrepressible sense of humour. His love for family, friends and jive dancing, Elvis, a beer and a good red wine are testament to his joie de vivre.

Glenn was born in North Battleford, SK the third of six children. The family moved to Edmonton when Glenn was young. He graduated from Bonnie Doon High School.

Following graduation, he started a long successful career with the engineering firm Stantec, formally Morgan-Dowhan. He started as a draftsman and successfully retired for the third and final time as a partner in 2015. Glenn was a loyal, brilliant designer winning two design awards both in Edmonton and Calgary during his long career.

Glenn's intelligence and work ethic was missed by none! We will forever remember Glenn with love, joy, and always a smile.

Glenn’s steely exterior belied the softness inside him. He loved camping and the great outdoors. The children remember many of great summer vacations in Sundre. He was a renowned wildlife photographer with a special gift for capturing birds in flight. Many of his photos were published on Flickr and achieved the top one hundred photo credit several times. He was very well respected in the photo community around the globe.

His sense of humour was next level, his spunk and spirit of life were like any good bottle of whiskey, something to savour and cherish. His mechanical / inquisitive mind created his passion for so many hobbies including restoring old antique cars. His 1934 Ford Cabriolet was his pride and joy.

In Sylvia, he found the love of his life… his soul mate, together they lived and loved intensely, and their love made his life complete.

He is survived by his daughter, Christine and (Tam Pozzobon), his son Daniel (Audra Rawlinson-Ford), his grandchildren, who are his pride and joy, Adison Parker, Danika Parker (James Treganza) and Ashley Parker; his special cat Willow, his brothers, Stan, also known as Bill (Marge),  Jack (Helen); his sister Anne (Ken), and his special friend Vera Brookson.

He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Gladys; wife Sylvia, sister Sheila (Brian) Hare, and sister-in-law Helen.
