Obituary of James Robert THOMPSON

February 23, 1950 – Winnipeg, Manitoba September 24, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta Jim, beloved husband of Anne Thompson (nee Cooney) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the age of 67 years. Jim was born in Winnipeg, MB. He had many stories of the great adventures at the cottage in Gimli with his parents, brother Bryan and sister Joan. He was surrounded by many relatives who gathered each summer and created many memories. Jim and family moved to Calgary seventeen years ago. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Manitoba and became a teacher. Jim’s desire to educate and help others carried over into his passion for tennis. He enjoyed tennis throughout his life as a professional, a mentor, and of course he played for the pure enjoyment of the game. His role as mentor continued as he became a father, providing unconditional love and support for his wife and sons. Jim was likely the most humble and easy going person you could meet. Besides his loving wife of twenty-eight years Anne, Jim is survived by his two sons, Kevin and James, stepson Dan Struss and wife Sarah, grandchildren, Justyn, Emily and Evan. He is also survived by a brother Bryan Thompson, wife Lyn and sister, Joan Trubyk, husband Joe, as well as his three nephews, Adam, Chris and Ryan. Jim will also be missed by his extended family from Winnipeg and Ireland. Jim was predeceased by his father, Ernest Thompson and mother Frances Thompson. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre St N., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
