Condolences
Scott, Cidnee, Henk, Fraser, Jane, Kim, Ron and families, we are so sorry to hear about your mom. Beth was such an amazing woman, so inspiring to all of us.
Garry and I have such fond memories of Beth at the Wigwam, picking raspberries and enjoying her great hospitality. We all loved her at our office. Her energy, friendliness, wit, intelligence was a true inspiration for all of us. I know she will be sadly missed by so many friends and family.
Our heartfelt condolences,
Patti and Garry
Cidnee, Henk, Scott, Fraser and Jane and family
I was sadden to hear the passing of you Mom. I had the pleasure meeting her (and most of you) at the dental clinic I presently work at.
I always looked forward to her visits at the office as she was such an inspiring lady, she always had a smile on her face and so kind. I know she will be greatly missed by all who knew her
Deepest Sympathy Cidnee & Henk, Scott & Anna, Kim & Ron, Fraser & Jane, all the Grands, and Great Grands. You have had to say goodbye (till you meet again) to the most beautiful lady (inside and out) who was an amazing lady right from start to finish of a long giving life. Even writing her own obit!! Never saw her without that twinkle in her eye and a fabulous smile. I remember many wonderful visits with Beth & Gerald with great conversations and I'm sure never without a cup of tea and goodies! Always talking about her family that she loved so much and so very proud of. each of you. Blessings & Prayers to all, Wilma
To the Haggins family,
We are saddened to hear of Beth’s passing. We have no doubt that she would have planned the most marvelous 100th Birthday Party with so many family and friends, but despite not reaching that milestone, Beth has left her mark in so many ways.
The Swailes and Haggins families go back many, many years. Beth and Gerald were often together with Lois and Ed Swailes, and perhaps they are all together again now.
Beth was such a good friend to so many people. The Lethbridge / Calgary group consisted of 12 couples, 6 from Calgary and 6 from Lethbridge, and every year they held an annual weekend-long gathering, alternating between the 2 cities. When it was the Calgary group’s turn to host, Beth was front and center organizing the activities. There were BBQs and luncheons, Dinner Theatres, visits to Calgary attractions, and an absolutely jam-packed schedule. The following year, it was always difficult for the Lethbridge group to match Beth’s enthusiastic planning and superb organizational skills!
Beth had a way of welcoming everyone and making them feel comfortable. Melanie first met Beth over 35 years ago through a Christmas wreath-making craft session! Melanie was interested in making a pine cone wreath, and mentioned this to Lois, her mother-in-law. Well, Lois talked to Beth, who just happened to be making some pine cone wreaths, and the next thing Melanie knew, Beth phoned her directly and said, “come on over, and we’ll make wreaths together”. Gerald agreed to cut out some additional plywood wreath bases, and Beth said she had bags and bags of pine cones, all collected from the Shuswap, so everything was set. Melanie was invited for a full day of wreath-making, lunch included, and Beth always kept in touch after that, even decades later. (The wreaths we made that day are still in use every Christmas!)
Our last visit with Beth was several years ago when we visited her at the Renoir. After Lois passed away, we brought several albums with photos from the Lethbridge / Calgary group. We thought that Beth would like to share them with Connie and Dorothy, or just reminisce about the many great times the group all shared.
Beth was a gregarious, kind and generous spirit. Our condolences to all the family.
Jeff and Melanie Swailes
The Haggins Family,
We had the pleasure to meet your parents through friendship with Marjorie and Ed Given. They were easy to get to know and always seemed to be "up" with current events. Beth was full of sparkle and a real joy at the bridge table as well. We know they are missed and extend our sympathy.
Doug and Barbara Baldwin.
Memories of ElizaBeth
What a blessing and a joy it has been to have had ‘Beth’s’ friendship
Over the past 4 decades. We first met her and Gerald on a
Trafalgar Coach Tour of the UK in Sept of 1972! Yes, the Maritimers and the
Westerners connected in jolly olde England, 49 years ago.
Our connection continued over the years via letters, cards and photos,
as well as several visits East and West. When we moved to Calgary
Nine years ago we were able to spend many more happy and fun
Filled hours with Beth at her former residence, The Renior—for dinner parties
And tea times and musical evenings.
Her vitality, her interest in life, and her philosophy on life was always inspirational
And fascinating! Oh, the laughs we had during our many discussions
On all manner of topics—marriage, motherhood, children, travel,
Fashion, books—and, inevitably, on politics! What fun it was to share opinions
and perspectives, often in a very animated way.
We will so miss our special friend Beth, and will remember her with great
Affection and love. As we mourn her passing, we hold fast to the belief that God
Has welcomed her home and will keep her close for all eternity.
May Peace be with us all.
Susan and Keith Cameron
Dear Haggins Family,
So sorry to hear about Beth's passing. But oh my did she lead an amazing life and it's only fitting that she wrote her own obit. The Bowen's and Haggins had many fun times together and I know our mom, Ramona Bowen, is welcoming her to share her next adventure.
Deb Cook (nee Bowen)
