Obituary of Islay Marion WEBSTER (nee Roppel)

August 19, 1932 – Rockyford, Alberta
July 22, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Islay Webster, beloved wife of Don Webster, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

Islay was born on a farm near Rockyford, AB on August 19, 1932, the youngest of four children. As a young woman, she moved to Calgary with her sister Marjorie and worked for a number of years at the Court House and later at Royalite Oil.

Islay met Don in Calgary and they were married in 1959. Islay and Don raised four children in the northwest community of Brentwood. They were very involved in the community with all of their children in sports and their active participation in the curling leagues at the Calgary Winter Club. The family relocated to Varsity Estates in 1977.

Islay displayed incredible strength throughout her life. She was a very proud and determined woman that never let hurdles or challenges prevent her from accomplishing her goals in life.  Competitive by nature, Islay was active in athletics from a young age and maintained a love of many sports throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed supporting the numerous sporting pursuits of her true pride and joy, her seven grandchildren. Islay spent many happy years cheering on her grandchildren in arenas and ball diamonds all over the city.

Islay also loved the sun and she and Don enjoyed many fantastic vacations on Maui, Islay’s favourite holiday destination.

Islay’s greatest legacy is the values that she instilled in her children and the tremendous strength of the family bond that has been created through her example. Nothing was more treasured or more important to Islay than family. Islay’s gift lives on and her presence will continue to exist at the regular gatherings of her ever-growing family.

Besides her loving husband Don, Islay is survived by her son Craig (grandchildren, Sydney and Austin), son Dean (daughter-in-law Lana, grandchildren, Kirstin, Chelsea and Nicole), son Blair (daughter-in-law Katie) and daughter Noreen Conway (son-in-law Brent, grandchildren, Hannah and Nolan), all residing in Calgary, AB. Islay is also survived by her sister Audrey Tannas of High River, AB, brother-in-law Marcel Ferraris of Calgary, AB as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Islay was predeceased by her brother Harold Roppel and sister Marjorie Ferraris.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel Of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral Services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
