Obituary of William Robert SMITH

Bill Smith of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the age of 87 years.
Bill will be remembered as a character in the neighbourhood with a big white moustache, a cowboy hat, and a pocket full of stories about his adventures in the mountains and the people he met. Bill grew up on the family ranch at Delburne and took great pride in his roots and family history. Dad had a love for horses, cattle, and boyhood adventures. He developed a talent fixing machinery and soon found employment that took him away from the farm and into the city of Calgary. After a career as a gas-fitter, he rekindled his passion for horses and the outdoors. Bill worked and volunteered as a back-country guide for Warner Outfitting in the Banff National Park. He also volunteered at Heritage Park, The Bar U Ranch, and then in Draft Horse Town at the Calgary Stampede. Bill expressed great love for his wife, Marion Smith. They were married for sixty-four years and had four children. His family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren know how much he loved and admired them.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the Hospitality Room at the Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will take place on Sunday, August 1 at 1:00 p.m. at the Delburne Cemetery.
