Obituary of Christian Mitchell Patterson
November 14, 1995 - September 4, 2021
Christian Patterson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the age of 25 years.
What can be said about a fine young man taken too soon.
“A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.”
Born in Winnipeg and shortly thereafter on the move. Calgary in 1996, Montreal in 1998 and back to Calgary in 2000.
He attended St. Cecilia Elementary school, Fairview Jr High and graduating from E.P. Scarlett High school, with honors and dual French and English diplomas. Christian ran with the Scarlett cross-country team. He loved soccer and he played both indoor and outdoor for many seasons and was waiting for the next season to begin after Covid restrictions. Christian recently started playing slow-pitch and was happy with a recent game where he homered.
He loved to cycle, but his passion was riding motorcycles, or mogocycling as he used to say when he was younger, with close to 15,000 km of riding.
After high school, Christian attended University of Calgary for two years in chemistry, before he decided that he would follow his aptitude with numbers. He attended Mount Royal University graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree. He was hired out of university and worked with the accounting firm MNP while continuing his education with the CPA course and was just weeks away from writing his final CPA exam.
For the young man that he was, he had a very sophisticated palate. Only top shelf and bespoke suits for this man.
Christian will forever be remembered in our hearts and our thoughts by his silly laugh, his caring nature and dry “Patterson “humour.
He leaves behind his mother, Athena Burtnick (Roger) of Winnipeg, his father Kevin Patterson (Angie) of Calgary/Costa Rica, sister Courtney (Shane) of Edmonton, many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as the numerous friends he made along this far too short journey.
The family would like to especially thank Christian’s very good friends, “The Guys” Ryan Shannon, Jorge Zapote, Titus Cheah, and Callum Gibson for banding together and all the amazing help they have provided to the family in these difficult days. Additionally, we’d like to thank Trevor Winkler of MNP accounting for his kind handling of affairs.
A Celebration of Christian’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Christians’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Afterwards we will continue the celebration of life at Kildare’s Ale House in Silverado as a come and go event beginning at 6:00 pm. Christian’s parents urge all of his friends to attend, say hello to us, give us a hug, have a drink with us, share your memories and tell us your stories of friendship. We are looking forward to hearing your stories. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
