It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Laura Anne Powderface, a dear mother, grandmother, sister, half-sister, aunt, cousin, niece, great-grandmother, adopted mother, sister and friend, on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the age of 61.

Mom was born in High River, Alberta. She grew up around Eden Valley, Gardner Ranch, Nanton, Longview, Black Diamond, and Morley. She was part of the hereditary line of leadership, fourth generation of Tatâga Mânî (Flora), third generation of Paul Sr. (Florence) Dixon. She was affectionately known as “Wathâbâ” (Black Bear) to family and friends. She showed unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. She maintained this loving connection with everybody that was blessed to share her life with her. She participated in her Yethka Traditional Ceremonies such as Sundance and believed in her cultural values such as making dry meat, berry picking, beadwork, horseback riding, and two step dance. She received her education in Nanton, AB. In 2013 she was employed at Morley Health Clinic as a liason worker.

She was loved dearly by her aunt (mom) Clarice Kootenay, adopted brother Travis Kootenay, adopted sister Tamara Kootenay, sister-in-law Debbie Dixon, papa Jerrett Tarrent, Darcy (Kathy) Dixon, Tammy Dixon, Teresa Dixon, and her favourite son-in-law Chavez Amos

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children, Jesse (Diondra), Amber, Peter; siblings, Rena (Donald), Harvey Dixon, Viola (Archie), Marietta; adopted children, Evelyn, Sabrina (Jason), Cindy, Alvin F.,Latoya Powderface, Joy Wesley, Billy Jack, Dustin, Melissa, Clifford, James; best friend Dale Brown; uncles, Lawrence (Lorianne) Dixon, Jeff (Evelyn), Charlie (Cassie); grandchildren, Lucus, Tyren, Healy, Joaniann, Lance, Zylen, Latishia, Jesse Jr., Kaleb Casteil; adopted brothers, Fabian Ear, Kerry Simeon, Elroy Bearhead(Debbie), Robert Bearhead, Kerri Mark; adopted sisters, Eilenna (Gerald) Mark, Annie Wesley, Josephine Simeon, Tammy Wildman; adopted grandchild Evandra Dixon; aunties, Eleanor Weaselchild, Barbara Hunter, Eva Baptiste, Kathleen Poucette, Winnie Simeon, Ella Dixon, Helena Chiniquay, Barbara Gardner, Bonnie Gardner; Adopted nephew Conrad (Martina) Lefthand; uncles, Paul Chiniquay, Frank (Marjorie) Chiniquay; as well as numerous cousins, aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends from Eden Valley, Gardner Ranch, Bighorn, Morley, Maskwacis, Paul band, Amos, Bearspaw, Baptiste, Benjamin, Crawler, Chiniquay, Cecil, Dixon, Daniels, Gardner, Hunter, Hollowy, Mark, Rider, LaBelle, Maclean, Kootenay, Powderface, Poucette, Rain, Lefthand, Rollinmud, Simeon, Twoyoungmen, and Ear. Laura was predeceased by her oldest son, daughter Arressa Powderface, mother Doris Dixon, maternal grandparents, Paul Sr. and Florence Dixon; uncles, Paul Jr. (Lily), Donnie (Margaret); aunties, Velma Dixon, Evelyn Dixon Sr., Barbara Rollinmud; uncles, Norman Poucette and Rayden Rollinmud; auntie Viola Kootenay; cousins Velma (Gerald) Powderface; Tom Dixon; and granddaughters, Big Girl (Verneshia), and Ayra.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Laura Powderface (Morley, AB) on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.  Funeral Services will be held at the residence of Laura Powderface (Morley, AB) on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Dixon Hill Cemetery (Morley, AB).
